What else can I learn?
Hot process soap making originated in ancient Babylon. It dates back to 2800 BC. We carry this traditional soap making method to the present day with the best ingredients. First, olive oil, sulfur and juniper tar are combined with water and caustic in stainless steel cauldrons and boiled over a fire using olive pulp as fuel. During the weeks-long boiling process, the oil reacts with caustic and water to form a thick liquid soap. After mixing, the mixture is poured into large trays. Timing is crucial for molding, at exactly the right time and temperature, the soap is hand cut and stamped without breaking. After drying sufficiently, it is stored at special room temperature to be aged for 3 to 6 months. Soap undergoes several chemical changes as it ages. The free alkaline content of the soap (caustic which does not react with the oil during saponification) is lost upon slow reaction with air. The moisture content of the soap is reduced, which makes the soap hard and long-lasting.
